Our ending point at mile marker 146. One day we'll be back to finish the Mississippi River.
We had to make a pretty big decision today for our journey. After 60 days we have decided to end the trip. The high waters and constant boat traffic put us at a state where we no longer feel safe being on the Mississippi River. We are pretty bummed we have to end 146 miles short of the gulf, but we have come a long way and are proud of ourselves for that! Paddling 2150 miles and raising $14,571 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has made this a journey of a lifetime! We've met a lot of great people on this trip and have had a lot of support for our cause. We can't thank everyone enough and hope you enjoyed following our journey as much as we have!
Today we was a lot to handle with all the boat traffic as we paddled through Baton Rouge. But we made it and now are less than 200 miles to the gulf. If all goes to plan will be done on August 5th! Check out this short video as we paddled with Dale Sanders when leaving Memphis!
https://vimeo.com/135078466 Stopped in saint francisville for a quick break and this great family treated us to dinner. We're always running into great people and so thankful for it! We're now outta Mississippi and have just Louisiana to get through. Less than 300 miles to go!
We couldn't take the heat any longer so had to take a swim to cool down a bit!
Also our donation site is having troubles showing the money amount donated, but happy to say we are now over $14000. How awesome is that! Thank you everyone! So we didn't get very far today. We decided to stay an extra day in Natchez to see more of the town. We think it is one of the prettiest towns along the river! Click here to see our most recent newspaper article! It was on the front page of the Natchez newspaper this morning!
We've made it to Natchez MS and we feel pretty blessed to get this kinda luxury here. When we arrived we had our hotel & meal all set up for us. Thanks go out to Renee Adams, Bill Serratt, and Lynn Fortenbury. You all went above and beyond for us and can't thank you enough! Will get a good nights rest and paddle on with less than 400 miles to go!
Today we left Vicksburg and had a great time while we stayed there because of our river angel Layne. He showed us all around and helped us out getting ready for our final stretch down the Mississippi. Can't thank him enough! Layne shared with us this great source about the lower Mississippi River water trail. Something fun to check out! http://www.rivergator.org/ Thanks to Layne for these pictures! We're in Vicksburg and have been looking forward to visiting this town on our journey. We're happy to hang out with Layne,a Mississippi River Angel, to help show us around! Not the best way to get to the gulf but we're making it. We are now outta Arkansas and into Louisiana. Less than 500 miles to go!
